What the... Peter flung into yet another parallel universe? And ten years into the future? Guess that's what the machine does, then. But how would that affect developments on Walternate's side and ours?
Access to other universes would mean access to other Peter Bishops; for example, you could find some other Peter, take him over to Walternate's side and switch off the machine there. That'd be one way to save the world.
It's possible that Peter is only seeing the future, not actually traveling there.
Also, I don't think there will be any new universes introduced.
